Fort Mill, SC, and Phoenix, Ariz., June 17, 2025 – In advance of National Tire Safety Week (June 30 to July 4, 2025), Continental Tire and Universal Technical Institute (UTI), the transportation, skilled trades, electrical, and energy education division of Universal Technical Institute, Inc., are partnering to remind drivers about the importance of proper tire care.
Since 2022, UTI and Continental Tire have partnered to enhance hands-on training for aspiring automotive technicians, with Continental serving as UTI’s Official Tire. The collaboration includes campus resources, tire donations, access to Continental’s proprietary Engage360 training modules, and the opportunity for Continental and its authorized dealers to post job openings on UTI’s nationwide job board, connecting students and alumni with open positions nationwide.
Beyond the classroom, both organizations are leveraging their partnership to raise awareness among everyday drivers about the real-world importance of tire safety. Proper tire maintenance not only extends tire life but also is an essential part of road safety.
“Tire safety is something everyone should understand—not just those in the automotive field,” said Tracy Lorenz, Division President at Universal Technical Institute. “With the busy summer driving season, being proactive about tire care is one of the easiest ways to help protect yourself, your passengers, and others on the road. A little attention to your tires can make a big difference in staying safe while traveling.”
"Tire safety starts with awareness—and it’s something every driver should take seriously," said Brian Beierwaltes, Head of Marketing US PLT, Continental Tire. “Through our ongoing partnership with UTI, we’re not only helping educate the next generation of technicians but reinforcing the importance of sharing that knowledge to promote car maintenance habits this summer and year-round."
Continental Tire and UTI recommend drivers follow these five simple steps to help maintain tire safety:
- Choose the Correct Tire: Selecting the appropriate tire for a vehicle is the first step toward a safe and comfortable driving experience.
- Check Tire Pressure Frequently: Tires should be inflated to the manufacturer's recommended pressure levels, as under-inflation can cause increased wear and higher fuel consumption.
- Monitor Tread Depth: Check the tread depth regularly to ensure adequate traction, especially in wet or slippery conditions.
- Ensure Proper Alignment and Rotation: Routine alignment and tire rotation help ensure even wear and can significantly extend tire lifespan.
- Conduct Visual Inspections: Tires should be inspected regularly for signs of damage, such as cuts, punctures, or bulges; any issues should be addressed promptly.
Drivers are encouraged to consult their trusted tire technician for recommendations or visit continentaltire.com for additional resources.
