  • Developed by championship-winning drivers, the ExtremeContact Sport is chosen by Saleen as the sole fitment for their S1 Super Car.

Fort Mill, SC; December 12, 2017 – The 2018 Saleen S1 was unveiled on November 30 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and the affordable supercar is fitted with Continental’s ExtremeContact Sport tires.

The ExtremeContact Sport is a dynamic, ultra-high performance street tire built for car enthusiasts and engineered for extreme grip in dry and wet conditions. Tested by five championship-winning race car drivers, the ExtremeContact Sport was designed for precise handling; security on wet, slippery roads; and excellent tread life.

“We’re extremely honored to be chosen as the fitment on the Saleen S1 super car,“ said Tony Talbert, tuning and off-road manager for Continental Tire. “The ExtremeContact Sport is the perfect tire for this super car. We took our knowledge from the track to the street and built a tire with the dry and wet performance a car enthusiast demands in a tire.”

“I think again we’ve touched on a really different category of car,” said founder, Steve Saleen. “We’ve just been very happy with the Continentals. They have super grip and I feel that they are the best supercar tires we can use.”

The Saleen S1 weighs just 2700 pounds with a focus on weight and agility. The car features an all-aluminum tub, carbon fiber body panels, and a 450-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The S1 starts at just $100,000 and Saleen has already begun taking $1,000 pre-orders. North American deliveries are expected to begin in late summer 2018.

As Steve Saleen reflects on his newest project, perhaps what he is most proud of is the innovation of a new car category.

“It isn’t that we invented a flying car or anything like that but we certainly went with a new genre of car," said Saleen. "We recognized a new trend and adapted to that. It seemed that everybody was going in another direction – they were all turning left and we made a hard right with a very unique presentation.”

The ExtremeContact Sport comes in 71 sizes, including 17 new sizes, ranging from 15” – 20” wheel diameters with a W and Y speed rating.
