ExtremeContact Sport Tire Chosen for ROUSH P-51 Mustang

  • Continental Tire and ROUSH team up for the first time.
  • The 295/35ZR19 ExtremeContact Sport is the exclusive fitment for the ROUSH P-51.

Ft. Mill, S.C.; June 14, 2017 – Continental Tires new, ultra high-performance tire, the ExtremeContact Sport, has been chosen as the sole fitment for the new, ROUSH P-51 Mustang. The ExtremeContact Sport was tested to the limits by five championship-winning race car drivers and satisfies the most demanding driver. The next generation of the ExtremeContact DW, is a dynamic, UHP street tire built for car enthusiasts and engineered for extreme grip in dry and wet conditions.

“We are honored that ROUSH has chosen the ExtremeContact Sport for the P-51 Mustang,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for Continental Tire. “The words ROUSH and performance are synonymous and we are proud to have engineered a performance tire that meets the expectations of ROUSH and its customers. We think this is a winning combination that enthusiasts will really enjoy.”

The ROUSH P-51 is the most powerful American pre-titled car ever built. The P-51 is a culmination of Jack Roush's personal passion for both aviation and performance vehicles and is a celebration of these two passions. The 2017 ROUSH P-51 is powered by a 727-horsepower ROUSH Eaton TVS supercharged "Coyote" 5.0L V8 engine that comes coupled to a choice of 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. This is the most powerful muscle car on the planet!

“The 'ROUSH P-51 Mustang' name has a special meaning for us," says Jack Roush Jr.  "The P-51 warbird is a personal passion of my father's going back to his childhood, and this vehicle is a tribute to him.  As a result, we wanted to outfit the vehicle with only the best components available, and the tire plays a critical role in performance.  The new Continental ExtremeContact Sport was the clear choice, and we're proud to feature it on the car.”

Only 51 2017 ROUSH P-51 Mustangs will be built. The ROUSH P-51 package features ROUSH TrakPak components including a 3-way adjustable coilover suspension and lightweight black forged wheels by Weld fitted with Continental ExtremeContact Sport tires (295/35ZR19). The manual transmission option also comes with PFC 2-piece rotors and updated friction pads.

To provide the most robust UHP tire possible, Continental applied the science of its SportPlus Technology to the ExtremeContact Sport. Designed for precise handling; security on wet, slippery roads; and excellent tread life, SportPlus Technology has helped improve this tire over its predecessor, the ExtremeContact DW, in several categories. Drivers will be impressed with the enhanced dry handling and steering response as well as improved tread life, noise and comfort.

Another marquee feature of the ExtremeContact Sport are Continental’s Tuned Performance Indicators. This award-winning technology has made Continental a number one choice among consumers by giving drivers an extra measure of confidence. The D (Dry) and W (Wet) letters in the tread indicate the tire’s optimal performance levels in dry and wet conditions.

In the cockpit, stunning custom P-51 Amaretto Tuscany leather seating matches the leather door inserts for Warbird-inspired styling, complemented by a P-51 gauge logo, red ROUSH shifter ball, ROUSH Performance pedals, and a P-51 interior plaque.

While there are Tuner or Post-Title vehicles that have claimed greater horsepower, the ROUSH P-51 Mustangs are ‘Pre-Title' conversions. ROUSH Vehicles are available at 400+ Ford dealerships with a full factory 3-year/36,000-mile warranty.”
